Sensory Dissection
Flavor
Bulang Sheng
Bulang sheng comes from Bulang mountain, home of some of Yunnan's oldest tea forests and the famous Ban Zhang village. The regional style is forceful: firm bitterness, strong pungent aroma, thick body, and a powerful returning sweetness that builds over steeps. Young Bulang tea is intense and not for the faint-hearted, but patient drinkers prize how it transforms with age into camphor and dark honey.
Yiwu Sheng
Yiwu sheng comes from the ancient tea forests around Yiwu in Xishuangbanna, one of pu-erh's most celebrated regions. The style is famously soft: floral, honeyed, and sweet with a gentle bitterness that fades fast into a long cooling finish. Young Yiwu is among the most approachable sheng for newcomers, while aged Yiwu develops camphor, old wood, and dried-fruit depth. It remains the benchmark for elegant sheng pu-erh.
